Hearing Tests

We offer diagnostic hearing tests in Pittsburgh, Monroeville, Clairton, Harmarville and Irwin, PA, for adults of all ages. To ensure accurate diagnosis of hearing loss, we perform a series of tests, including the following:

The goal of the hearing exam is to assess your hearing ability and to identify the degree of hearing loss present. We will record your results on an audiogram which will give us your hearing prescription. Using this, we will create a customized treatment plan to help you hear better.

Cognivue: Cognitive Screening

Hearing ability is the number one modifiable risk factor for cognitive decline. People with untreated hearing loss experience a 30%-40% greater decline in cognitive abilities and an increased risk of developing dementia. Because your hearing ability is so deeply connected to your brain health, we offer Cognivue screening.

Cognivue screening is a five-minute, self-administered test that evaluates three cognitive functions: memory, visuospatial, and executive function as well as reaction time and speed processing. This screening is a major step toward identifying cognitive decline caused by depression, anxiety, and hearing loss. To learn more about Cognivue, please contact us.

Hearing Aid Fitting

For hearing aids to work their best, it’s important that they are programmed and fitted correctly to your unique needs. At our hearing clinic, we will ensure your hearing aids fit snuggly yet comfortably in or around your ear. We will also use real ear measurement to program your hearing aids to your exact hearing prescription. Real ear measurement is a verification technique used to identify if your hearing aids are providing you with the right amount of amplification to hear voices.

Hearing Protection

One of the best ways to prevent hearing loss is by protecting your hearing from loud noise. Loud noise exposure is one of the most common causes of hearing loss, especially in younger adults. Any time the noise level exceeds 85 decibels, which is the average sound level of city traffic, you should wear hearing protection.

At Hearing Unlimited, we can create custom fit earplugs, earmolds, and in-ear monitors for musicians. Be proactive about your hearing by wearing hearing protection!

Tinnitus Management

Have you ever heard a noise in your ears when no external sounds are present? You may have tinnitus. Tinnitus, also known as “ringing in the ears,” is incredibly common, affecting millions of people in the U.S. Tinnitus affects everyone differently and the symptoms can range from mildly annoying to unbearable.

While there is no cure for tinnitus, there are treatment options that can help. A tinnitus treatment we offer at Hearing Unlimited are hearing aids. Today’s hearing aids have a masking feature that can distract your brain from annoying sounds of tinnitus. Although hearing aids won’t stop ringing in the ears completely, they can greatly help.
