#1 Check batteries
Batteries usually last about 3-4 weeks. Make time to pick up replacements from the nearest Hearing Unlimited office when necessary.
#2 Clean hearing aids regularly
Use a soft, dry cloth to remove dirt and other particles that may be affecting the hearing aid’s functionality.
#3 Minimize moisture
It is very important to keep the hearing aids dry to keep them operating longer. Remove the batteries and place the hearing aids in the duck container with beads inside provided by your audiologist. Put the lid on the container and let the hearing aids dry out over night.
#4 Reactivate the moisture-minimizing container
When the beads inside the duck container start to turn green, place the container in the microwave and heat for one minute. Make sure your hearing aids are NOT in the container before placing it in the microwave. Let it cool for 20 seconds and the beads should turn to their normal yellow color, which means it is ready to use.
#5 Avoid feedback
When there is feedback, you will hear that whistling sound in your ear. Try readjusting your hearing aids and if the feedback continues, see an audiologist to see if you need to adjust the volume, size of hearing aid or clean out earwax.
